While no firm can be all things to all people, Chapin Hill Advisors strives to deliver value based advice and provide for a client’s complete set of financial needs. While this may mean that we refer clients to outside professional sources for services we do not provide (e.g. attorneys of all specialties, property casualty insurance brokers, CPA’s and so on), we become the one stop shop for all of your remaining financial needs.
We generally determine a client’s needs through the process of executing a financial plan. Action items with a structured timeline are then drawn up for execution by the client. Where necessary, this will include making appointments with other professionals in order to complete the action items on the client’s list.
Depending on the level of financial plan the client chooses to execute, we can offer to conference with the other specialist(s) to help the client determine what service or product best meets the client’s need. We can work with the client’s other advisors to be sure their financial plan is executed in a satisfactory manner.
During the financial planning process, we address all or a portion of the seven tenets of planning, including retirement planning, education planning, cash flow and debt management, risk management, tax planning, estate planning and investment management. The number of tenets addressed will depend upon the level of financial plan the client chooses to execute.
Our Platinum Level Financial Plan addresses all seven tenets in great detail in an Executive Summary and a summary of action steps required (the ‘Action Checklist’.) The client can then take their Executive Summary along with their Action Checklist and if appropriate, their net-worth statement and asset grid, to the other professional(s) to execute the appropriate service.
If a client chooses to execute one of our other levels of financial plans - either Gold or Silver, we will limit our focus and tailor the plan to include a maximum of four tenets which the client wishes to focus on. Since the client is choosing to limit their focus to either two or four tenets of planning, we do ask that they sign a disclaimer which states that they are choosing to limit their focus.
These plans may include some consultation with other professionals; however consultations are more limited than those associated with the Platinum service. All plans come with referrals to sources that will help meet clients’ complete financial needs.
We find that the process and tools we offer at Chapin Hill de-mystify, simplify and clarify the execution of financial planning for our clients. It helps them to assess priorities and often, save money as the additional service professionals we refer them to do not have to duplicate our data-gathering. This also expedites that particular action step for the client. We can then review the documents, suggestions or quotes from the other professionals to allow the client to better assess the recommendation and feel confident in moving forward with their roadmap to financial freedom.
